About
Since the founding of the State of Israel, the Haredi draft has been a topic rooted in conflict and turmoil.
Even within Haredi communities themselves, it is a divisive subject with strong opinions on either side. Those who do enlist in the IDF are typically met with a variety of challenges. These sentiments often lead to feelings of isolation, causing former soldiers to defect from Haredi society.
In recent years, away from the public eye, a quiet transformation has been taking place. A growing number of Haredi soldiers are enlisting in the army, being assigned to combat brigades and battalions. This allows them to serve the country with their full strength and dedication, while maintaining their spiritual values – without having to compromise on their religious way of life.
Many Haredi youth who struggle to find their place in the Yeshiva world for various reasons are now being drafted into the IDF. Throughout their service, they face significant challenges, but ultimately, they thrive and mature physically, emotionally, and spiritually. However, at the end of their three years of service, many find that they have nowhere to return. They often feel alienated from their communities, and sometimes even from their own families, as they no longer feel accepted.
Kochot provides a home, family, and supportive Torah community to every Haredi soldier upon his discharge from the military. Our facility features a dedicated Torah environment, including a Beit Midrash, a variety of shiurim and lectures on diverse Torah topics, premarital and marital counselling, academic guidance, as well recreational programs.
How It All Began
It all began in August 2013 when I made the decision to enlist in the Israeli army. I was drafted into the IDF’s Netzach Yehuda Brigade, where I discovered new strengths I never knew I had. During my service, I gained a sense of responsibility and developed leadership skills. Most importantly, I found a sense of purpose and meaning, which for the first time in my life, made me feel that I was truly reaching my potential.
After completing my service, I began searching for something as meaningful as my service. I wanted something more than to travel to the Far East or to earn a quick buck like most of my friends. One day, a friend introduced me to Rabbi Beri Klein, and our conversations about life and spirituality opened my eyes to ideas I had never explored before.
He led me to understand the importance of self-development, how to invest in myself and expand my horizons to create a better future. Before long, I found myself drawn to Rabbi Klein’s teachings, which helped me discover a new world of Torah and meaning.
Rabbi Klein has hundreds of students around the world, including highly-successful businessmen, who integrate spiritual life and Torah with business, as well as educators who are shaping the next generation.
I had the immense privilege of spending the next five years learning from him, absorbing knowledge and understanding of a wide range of Torah subjects. Most importantly, I gained proper values and clear insights which empowered me to teach others and guide them to build themselves and their future.
One day, after a couple of years of teaching and mentoring at a Yeshiva, I found myself in a conversation with Rabbi Klein about the challenges faced by Haredi soldiers. We discussed their challenges, the difficulties they experience as they struggle to reenter Haredi society and balance Torah, spiritual life and other pursuits.
Many of these young men, having drifted between yeshivot during their adolescence, never truly experienced the depth and meaning of Torah study. While some were tragically separated from their families, others had no support system in their everyday lives, much less for important decisions like shidduchim or starting a family. To make matters worse, most Haredi men had never taken matriculation exams, which severely limits their options for academic study and employment opportunities. We understood that there was a big need for a program that would fill these needs.
Unable to accept the status quo, on October 26, 2022, we started the first group at Kochot. Our inaugural group included 12 discharged soldiers from various units, including Netzach Yehuda, Chetz, Tomer, and more.
Since then, we have proudly facilitated over 40 alumni, each of whom attests to how Kochot imbued him with the emotional strength to successfully build a future and reintegrate smoothly into civilian life. Many of our alumni maintain close relationships with one another, and they all visit the Beit Midrash occasionally to delve into a daf Gemara, attend shiurim, or just offer Kochot and encouragement to newer students…

Our Vision
Our vision is to create a comprehensive framework that supports Haredi men after their army service, helping them transition smoothly into civilian life. This includes religious studies, support with academic studies, relationship and dating guidance, and a strong, supportive community. We would like to offer practical services such as housing, financial assistance, and personal development tools, ensuring they are well-equipped for the next chapter of their lives. Our goal is to help them harness the full potential they’ve developed through their upbringing, yeshiva education, and military service, empowering them to thrive in meaningful ways.
We strongly believe that the foundations we provide are critical not only to the individual but to the strength and stability of Israeli society as a whole. Now and always.
Testimonials
I served as a combat soldier in the Netzach Yehuda brigade. After the army and the reserves, I searched for a path to my faith and service to Hashem, and nowhere really fit what I was looking for. While in the reserves, I was constantly asked about religion and faith and I didn’t really know how to answer. It convinced me that I needed to find somewhere that would give me answers to those questions. Immediately after the end of my reserve duty, a friend recommended Kochot. I tried it out for one day and found that all the questions I had for myself were being discussed. Now my faith and devotion is stronger and more successful than ever, I am expanding and deepening my relations with Hashem and Torah. Additionally, the relation classes we took helped me prepare in an incredible way for that stage of my life. I urge every discharged soldier to come to Kochot and experience a real taste of life.

I am currently 23 years old and served as a military photographer in the Netzach Yehuda brigade. I entered Kochot right after the end of my service, and have currently been here for two years. I can’t think of a better, more suitable place for me than right here. I received and still receive significant and practical values for a life filled with observation, depth, and inner joy. Kochot made me realize the abilities and strengths in me which I didn’t realize I previously had. Every day spent here leads to deeper and greater insights about life, real vibrant, interesting conversations about everything down to the smallest detail of everyday life. I’m grateful that I get to be part of something that is going to be a significant part of shaping the next and victorious generation of the people of Israel.

I served in Camp Ofer in the construction unit 562, with my main role being the supervision of the mast contract. After being released from the army, I was searching for a framework that could fill the void I felt and, more importantly, provide me with a sense of direction and purpose. I found Kochot through the Rabbis of the Netzach Yehuda Association, and I was only there for a few hours before I felt like this was the right place for me to be at. The positive atmosphere of the friends I met there and the way the classes are taught over made me feel that this is the place for me. The framework gave me a different familiarity with the Gemara, the Chumash and above all a different perspective on relationships and how they should be had in a healthy way. Through the classes here, I began to discover more of myself and what direction I want to go towards.

I am currently 25 years old and previously served in the Etzion Regional Brigade as an Operational Driver. Two years after I completed my services, I still wasn’t able to find myself, not until I found Kochot, a place that really gave mental strength and an understanding of life in the best way possible. Whether it is how to build a home and respect my wife, or learning Chovot Halevavot, a book of guidelines for a life of security and faith, learning Gemara and Chumash in a unique way which I’ve never experienced before. The amazing Rav Chait invests his heart and soul into the program, so that after the army, soldiers can start their lives on the right path and have a true understanding of what it means to live a life of meaning. I feel grateful to Hashem every day for the amazing privilege to be able to participate and be a part of Kochot.

I was a combat soldier in the Netzach Yehuda brigade, and after the army I was in search of a place that would help guide me through Torah, spirituality and Yirat Hashem. I looked through several places before I found Kochot, which was exactly what I was looking for. It’s a place filled with positivity, one with good friends, with Rav Chait who taught me what a relationship is, where I learned how to study Torah in depth, and how to live a life filled with purpose and personal growth. Now that I have finished the program, I realize how important the learning I had done was, and how I got tools to help me through my everyday life.
